May, 2009
Verizon Business, one of the world's largest telecommunications company has collaborated with JANET, UK's national research and education network indeploying a trial operation of its 100GBPS optical service.
This partnership proved to be successful and it showed that different optical signals "can be carried simultaneously without impact [and that] current networks can be upgraded to the higher bandwidth without modification to the physical network," Verizon says.
Also during this trial, Verizon has purposely applied signal impairments and see if these can also be corrected by electronic hardware.
This newest technology will prove to be the highest yet in terms of bandwith capacity and will influence more and more providers to upgrade their network as well.
